Camp Twin Lakes is now both my passion AND my profession!
Hi Friends---WOW, what an incredible year it's been since the last Spin for Kids event! As you know, this beautiful ride through the rolling hills of Madison, Georgia has become my favorite day of the year for many reasons. Camp Twin Lakes is an incredible place where children with serious illnesses, disabilities and other life challenges are able to have a fun and educational camp experience in a medically supportive environment. They increase their independence and learn how to assume more responsibility, and meet other friends who are just like them. For most of our campers, the week of summer camp is their favorite week of the year and they look forward to feeling "normal" all year long.
This is an extra special year for me as I will soon be celebrating my 6 month anniversary as the CEO of this remarkable organization! It has been a true blessing and gift to transform my role from a volunteer at Camp Twin Lakes where I have been a camp counselor for kids with Type 1 diabetes and a Board member for one of our camp partner organizations, to now working full-time to lead the organization and help ensure we can serve even more campers who need us.
We are celebrating our 25th anniversary this year! In 2016, Camp Twin Lakes served over 10,000 campers, levereged support from 3,500 volunteers, and subsidized 70% ($550/week) of the direct camp costs for every camper served. We operate 3 camp locations in Winder, Rutledge and Warm Springs and partner with more than 60 non-profit organizations to provide this amazing experience for the kids.
On October 15, 2017, I will be riding 47 miles again and am the captain of the Camp Twin Lakes team this year! I would love for you to join our team and come out for the event. And as always, thank you in advance for any gift you're able to give to support our work and bring smiles to the children we serve. Come visit me at camp this summer!
