Cycling to Make a Difference
Meet Brian "B-Money" Murkison, one of my associate's nephew, who at six years old was nearly killed in an automobile accident. Against strong odds, Brian survived and due to his hard work, he made a strong recovery. However, he still has limitations and struggles with certain tasks.
On October 15th, I will again be cycling 100 miles in Spin For Kids to raise money for Camp Twin Lakes, an incredible organization that provides camp programs for children like Brian that have serious illnesses, disabilities, and other life challenges. In 2016, Camp Twin Lakes served over 10,000 campers, levereged support from 3,500 volunteers, and subsidized 70% ($550/week) of the direct camp costs for every camper served.
Why I Ride
I am proud to serve on the Risk Management Committee for Camp Twin Lakes which has allowed me a behind the scenes look at this special organization. I have been extremely impressed with how hard they work to provide a wonderful experience for their campers. Spin For Kids is their largest fund raising event and makes it possible for campers, that if not for this event would not be able to attend this important camp. Every $110 I raise funds a day of camp for a Camp Twin Lakes camper. During just one day at CTL, that camper could climb the rock wall for the first time, share a hidden talent at a talent show, learn about healthy eating through a fun cooking class, and make new friends who understand what it's like to take medicine every day or spend time in the hospital. Camp gives these kids the opportunity to build their confidence and capabilities without worrying about their extraordinary day to day challenges.
Why You Should Sponsor Me
100% of the money you donate goes directly to campers at Camp Twin Lakes, so your gift will truly make a difference in a child's life! I'm taking the challenge to ride and fundraise to give Brian and his fellow campers an incredible Camp experience, and I hope you'll support me as pedal those miles and put smiles on the faces of the campers!
